INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR DIGITAL EXCITATION CONTROL SYSTEM DECS-100 Publication:. Changed OEL default setting from 1 to 15. DECS-100 is held in place by thread-forming screws that thread into its plastic shell. This is a scan of the MicroVAX 630Q Owner's Manual from DEC. It was scanned in 600dpi and converted to searchable PDF in both 300 and 600 dpi variants. The raw scans are also included Topics: DEC, VAX, Manual. Basler Electric. The DECS-15 digital voltage regulator is now obsolete. Fortunately the DECS-250 was designed to supersede all the functions of the DECS-15 to allow for easy upgrade to the new digital voltage regulator (please note that this post is valid for the following Basler voltage regulators: DECS125-15, DECS63-15 & DECS32-15)

The DECS-250 is not an exact like for like replacement but does not require a lot of engineering as it was developed with the aim of replacing the DECS-15. A complete step by step upgrade manual is available on request. Here is an extract “Download: Basler DECS125-15 replacement by DECS-250 Extract”

For complete DECS125-15 excitation chassis supplied from Basler, we have like for like solutions available based on the DECS-250. Look for the Basler Electric Part Number on the excitation system drawings. The number would be somewhere on the bottom right corner of the page. If you find the following number 6-1103-91-120 or similar (Sometimes called MP120), Contact us and request the Basler Electric like for like replacement of the “MP120″. This is the easiest solution as it is completely like for like and requires less than an hour to swap over.

If the DECS-15 AVR was supplied as a standalone AVR, the DECS-250 can be used with the following considerations:

Mechanical

Even though they are similar in size, the dimensions of both units are not strictly identical. The DECS-15 includes a separate Power module which is now included in the DECS-250 thus making the power module obsolete. In most cases, removing the DECS-15 and the Power module frees enough space to install the DECS-250.

  • DECS-15: 229 x 149 x 328mm (HxLxD)
  • DECS-15 Power Module: 105 x 122 x 197mm (HxLxD)
  • DECS-250: 305 x 205 x 219mm (HxLxD), (Including builtin power module)

Position of the terminal blocks:

  • Are located at the back of the DECS125-15
  • Are located on the left side of the DECS-250

It is important to consider the length of wires when choosing the location of the DECS-250

Terminal names & Numbers

Some terminals on the DECS-250 have different names. A table showing the pin names transfer is included in the upgrade manual “Download: Basler DECS125-15 replacement by DECS-250 Extract“.

Same Features

  • Field output rating
  • Voltage sensing range
  • Current sensing range 1 or 5A.
  • Bus sensing range (if voltage matching is used)
  • Setpoint adjustment by dry contacts: raise / lower.
  • Regulation mode selection by contact 52JK and 52LM

Differences

  • Power input: DECS-250 doesn’t require the external power module. It might require an Inrush Current Reduction Module in some power supply configurations. Please refer to our upgrade manual for full details “Download: Basler DECS125-15 replacement by DECS-250 Extract“
  • Cross current compensation: The DECS-250 have a dedicated cross current compensation input. For that reason, if cross current compensation is used with the DECS125-15 there are 2 options to re-wire the DECS-250:
  1. Using the dedicated input which requires a dedicated sensing CT
  2. Using only the sensing CT of the DECS-250 for the cross current compensation loop but the power measures in the DECS-250 will then be wrong and the under excitation limiter will have to be disabled.

DECS-250 Specific requirements

  • The DECS-250 needs to be powered by an auxiliary power supply. The accepted range is 16 to 60Vdc or 90 to 150Vdc or 85 to 132Vac. The control power allows the record of data logging, Oscillography records, sequence of event recording and Date & Time which are new features available in the DECS-250 which greatly enhance the troubleshooting process.
  • As the DECS-250 is permanently powered, it requires START/STOP signal. This will allow for soft start functions to operate. External signal is not required as the DECS-250 is able to switch ON and OFF itself by internal logic. Please refer to our upgrade manual for more details “Download: Basler DECS125-15 replacement by DECS-250 Extract“.

Optional new features

Upgrading to a DECS-250 could be the opportunity to include a few new features available in all DECS-250s, such as:

Decs 125 15 Instruction Manual Instruction

  • Pre-position to load a pre-defined setpoint by the closure of a dry contact (convenient use upon synchronisation to preset a PF or VAR level, or even when going standalone to automatically restore the rated voltage
  • Automatic / Manual mode control available by the closure of 2 dry contacts.
  • Communication port RS485 for SCADA integration
  • Exciter Diode Protection
  • PID auto tuning
  • Internal and external tracking (Bumpless transfer between AVRs and between regulation channels) see our FAQ
  • Stator current limiter, Online & Offline Over excitation limiter, Under excitation Limiter based on the capability curve, see our FAQ

A step-by-step Basler DECS-15 to DECS-250 upgrade manual is available on request, an extract is available here “Download: Basler DECS125-15 replacement by DECS-250 Extract“. In addition, we also provide parameters calculations to transfer the DECS-15 settings file into a DECS-250 settings file. We can also dispatch the DECS-250 pre-programmed to closely match the DECS125-15 behaviour. Contact us for info on replacing a DECS-15 Voltage regulator.
